Bellco raises funds for Cody, the injured Reading K9
(September 25, 2015)
Bellco FCU staff and members raised funds for the injured Reading Police K9, Cody, last week through a charity dress down day. Cody, a three year old Belgian Malinois, fell 15 to 20 feet from a catwalk two weeks ago.
Cody and his handler, Officer John Hutchinson, had been at Reading's Southwest Middle School responding to a report that the school was unsecure. While searching for an unauthorized person on the premises, Cody fell from a catwalk in the school's boiler room.
A fund was set up to help pay for Cody's medical bills and Bellco FCU responded by setting up a charity dress down day. They were able to raise $185. Yesterday, one generous employee stepped up and donated an additional $15 to make the total an even $200.

Bellco FCU CEO Tom Gosling sees this as a giant leap in the right direction for our shared branching system. Gosling stated, "Shared branching creates greater member convenience and also produces revenue for all participating institutions." CO-OP Shared Branch consists of 5,341 branches, and exceeds Bank of America's 5,244 branches.
The credit union's shared branch network is making large strides and falls right behind Chase and Wells Fargo. If all credit unions in the United States were a part of the shared branching network, our locations would reach more than 20,000! Shared branching offers a great accessibility for members of participating credit unions. Gosling pronounced, "the payment systems are a-changing. Members want to use our cards with their mobile wallets to earn Kasasa cash rewards." Bellco FCU, a not-for-profit cooperative, returns monthly profits to its members in cash. Gosling said that the program pays members who use the services and members love receiving cash rewards!

Gosling stated that Bellco is moving as fast as possible to be able to locally roll out the program. "Bellco has been on the cutting edge of financial institutions offering text and app banking for several years now and with the recent launch of our Kasasa reward accounts, nationwide ATM refunds and over 5,200 shared branches for members, Apple Pay and EMV will be an added benefit of membership," Gosling said.
